Tina Heine
Festival Director and Restaurateur
Tina Heine was in her 4th semester of studies in mathematics and German literature when a friend offered her space in a historical building to build a bar. 12 years after the risky departure from university, she began hosting a series of jazz concerts in her bar “Hadley’s”. Over the years, the live concerts in her place created a new scene of jazz lovers and Tina decided to do more. She dreamed of bringing the “Monteux Idea” of a large jazz festival to Hamburg – great music for thousands of people! The concept: 2 days, 10 stages, 50 concerts, all along the waterfront connected via ferryboats. ELBJAZZ Festival attracts more than 20,000 people per year, and 2014 will be her 5th edition. In a few short years, the festival has become a mainstay in Hamburg’s music scene. In less than 18 minutes, she hopes to unravel the complexities of integrating a cultural event into a city’s identity.
